Today is National Shero Day! What’s a shero? A shero is a female hero who inspires girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for women everywhere. Last Friday, Barbie and Mattel honored six such women at the Variety Power of Women Luncheon in New York City in a very special way-by creating one-of-kind dolls in their likenesses. The Sheroes honored were Ava DuVernay, Emmy Rossum, Eva Chen, Kristen Chenoweth, Sydney “Mayhem” Keiser and Trisha Yearwood.
Evelyn Mazzocco, General Manager Barbie, stated in the press release “Barbie has always represented that girls have choices, and this Spring we are proud to honor six Sheroes who through their trade and philanthropic efforts are an inspiration to girls. Started by a female entrepreneur and mother, this brand has a responsibility to continue to honor and encourage powerful female role models who are leaving a legacy for the next generation of glass ceiling breakers.”
Our favorite is the Emmy Rossum doll because she is a TomGirl through and through. We love her fearless, raw performances as Fiona Gallagher on Shameless. We love when she struts her daring red carpet fashionista style in those Carolina Herrera dresses. And we love her passion for animals. Emmy struck a pose with her mini me on Instagram:
Barbie has been doing a great deal to promote strong, super females. Check out this trailer from the Princess Power movie that was released in March:
We didn’t have this kind of Barbie growing up but sure are glad that generations to come will. Who else would you like to see have their own Shero doll?
