Hi! I’m J.J. and I’m excited to meet you! To tell you a little more about myself and the inspiration behind TOMGIRL, I’m an Emmy nominated writer/producer, TV host, actor, athlete and adventurer.  My journey began on a small lake outside of Omaha, Nebraska where I grew up a complete tomboy trying to keep up with my older brother. We boated, water skied, built forts, fished (gar hunting was often a Friday night fave) rode ATVs, canoed down the river, played hockey in the winter and got into a little bit of mischief (a little is good, right?). Growing up on a lake is a dream life for a kid and why lake life will always be the life for me-you can’t beat it!

My parents were both teachers and encouraged us to be very active. We played countless games of family basketball together and I fell in love with sports. Basketball was my biggest passion and when it came time for college, I had my heart set on becoming a Husker. I walked on to the team my freshman year and my dreams came true when I received a scholarship. The experience was life changing.  We took a few trips to the Big Dance, I made some lifelong friendships and the opportunities at the university propelled me into my career in sports broadcasting and the entertainment industry. 

After grad school, Cali was calling so I headed west.  Over the years in LA I have worked as a producer for the LA Dodger’s Dodgervision, UCLA Athletics and MCA Records, a Creative Director for CBS Marketing, hosted shows and red carpet events, and voiced numerous incredibly fun voiceover projects. 

TOMGIRL is a combination of all these aspects of life I love most. The TOMGIRL name came from growing up a tomboy but also loving girly things like watching red carpets with mom and fashion.  It’s for all of those girls who are badasses out on the court or field and then can swap those high tops and cleats out for some killer heels and a stunning dress and have faced those who are shocked they are able to do so.  But TOMGIRL isn’t just for girls-it’s for the guys, too. Because both girls and guys love an epic adventure and great style.   It’s a community for all those who love sports, entertainment, fashion and adventure to all come together.  It’s for athletes, armchair quarterbacks, hikers, campers, glampers, adventurers, music lovers, fashionistas, dreamers…everyone… to find their tribe, share ideas and be inspired. 

I want this to be your getaway destination where you’ll find interviews with fascinating people and learn from their stories, discover new travel ideas, get fashion tips, your entertainment fix, and be encouraged to seek new adventures, celebrate what you love, and get out of your comfort zone.

Oh, and I love dogs. So be prepared for lots and lots of dog posts.
